Rug & Carpet Underlay

Underlay or anti-slip was created to ensure movement was minimised as much as possible. It is generally recommended for additional protection, improved comfort underfoot and insulation.

TOG, or Thermal Overall Grade, is a unit of measurement that indicates how insulated a product is.

The higher the number, the better the material is at trapping heat within its fibres.

If you have underfloor heating, pay close attention to this, as a high TOG rating will mean that heat cannot quickly escape and will instead be trapped and may cause issue. Our experts can always help, if you have questions.

Underlay serves a variety of functions:

• It helps insulate to reduce heat and sound transmission through floors

• It prevents the movement of your Carpet, Rug or Runner along the subfloor (tile, laminate, wood or stone)

• It is also perfect for adding a little softness beneath the surface to make your floor a joy to walk on!

For most carpets, a 9mm underlay offers the best balance of function and comfort.

For rugs, a 6.5mm underlay is recommended. It’s easy to move with your rug and provides the benefits of an underlay without the need for thicker materials.

The double stick system is the standard method for installing most natural carpets. This technique involves first adhering a heavy-duty underlay to the subfloor. Next, the carpet is applied and stuck to the underlay.

This does not apply to Rugs and Runners, as these do not need fixing in place.

All Rugs on our website are Made To Order. To make a Rug from scratch usually takes 3-4 weeks. Then delivery time is usually 3 to 5 working days.
